What is Psoriasis? Patients of Minneapolis Dermatologist Dr. Patrick Carney Share Their Stories

Psoriasis, in its clinical appearance, is
an inflammatory condition. The skin is red. It’s inflamed. It’s scaling. A mid-potency
topical steroid is very effective at controlling that. You have no quality of life. When you
itch, you do not sleep at night, your skin is hot, your skin is cold. It is the worst
part of any skin disease. I don’t want to get up, I don’t want to
go out. I hardly ever left the house, and I thought
I was the only person in the world who was suffering.
I think me being younger, I was struggling with the fact that I really, really was upset
that I had this. It was because of Dr. Carney that I really pushed through and kept trying
things. I was first referred to Dr. Carney about six
years ago for a chronic skin condition, so that’s the first time that I met him. From
the time that I met him, up through now, and I’ve been a patient of his through this
entire time, he came across as a highly competent professional, but even more than that as somebody
who is really concerned and cares about his patients.
The best part about Dr. Carney is that he spends the time with you and he really listens
to what’s going on with you. Not just physically, but emotionally because a big part of psoriasis
is emotional and it’s not just physical. I am really loyal to him because I feel like
he has been so loyal to me in all of my ups and downs with psoriasis.
