Top 7 Foods for Getting Rid of Leaky Gut | Dr. Josh Axe

Hey guys, Dr. Axe here, doctor of natural
medicine. In this video I’m going to share with you the top seven foods for healing leaky
gut along with the healing leaky gut diet. Leaky gut syndrome is where you get something
called intestinal permeability. That’s where certain proteins like gluten start to leak
through your intestinal wall, get in your blood stream, and then cause systemic body
wide inflammation. It can cause inflammation of your thyroid causing Hashimoto’s disease.
It can cause inflammation of your large intestine and cause inflammatory bowel disease. It can
also cause inflammation causing food sensitivities and different reactions in your body. By consuming
these seven foods it can help you heal leaky gut syndrome for good. Let’s start off here with the number one food,
and that’s bone broth. Bone broth has traditionally been made by boiling or cooking the ligaments
of chickens as well as the bones and also bones from beef. What happens is certain amino
acids and minerals come out into the liquid. The most powerful amino acids are proline
and glycine. We know proline is a precursor to collagen. We know when your body stops
producing collagen over time it’s what causes you to get wrinkles and your skin to get loose.
It’s a similar thing with your digestive tract. We want that tight. We want those tight junctions
tight in your gut. We don’t want things like gluten getting through. Proline and glycine,
the amino acids in bone broth, help tighten it up and can help repair the damaged gut
lining. Drinking bone broth every day is incredibly
healthy for healing leaky gut syndrome. Also, bone broth contains L-glutamine, another amino
acid that really works as a Band-Aid for your small intestine and colon and really helping
protect those areas. Again, bone broth, number one healing food for leaky gut. I recommend
eight ounces two times a day. The best thing to do is get a big Crock-Pot and make real
bone broth soup and drink that several times a day. The second healing food for leaky gut syndrome
is kefir or homemade yogurt. We know fermented dairy is the most probiotic rich super food
in the world today. If you can be getting goat’s milk kefir or homemade yogurt… Homemade
yogurt should be fermented 24 to 29 hours. We know it contains specific types of probiotics
such as lactobacillus which have been shown to crowd out bad bacteria such as different
types of yeast and fungus and really help increase the probiotics in the gut. Listen, most people today have a severe probiotic
deficiency. If you’re going to heal leaky gut, you have got to restore any probiotic
deficiencies. Again, kefir, goat’s milk kefir and yogurt are the best. You can find those
at your local health food store. The third healing food for leaky gut syndrome
are fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut, kimchi, kvass, and coconut kefir as well.
Different types of fermented vegetables, especially sauerkraut, are greatly beneficial because
it contains bacillus subtilis. Bacillus subtilis is a soil based probiotic. It also contains
lactobacillus plantarum probably in the largest levels. These probiotics in a similar fashion
crowd out bad bacteria. Also, they’re at a certain Ph. You know that
really sour, tart taste when you’re tasting sauerkraut? Those are organic acids. Those
acids really help feed and fuel probiotics in the gut. It’s not just about getting more
probiotics. It’s about creating an environment where probiotics can flourish. Again, getting
sauerkraut and kimchi and fermented vegetables in your diet is a great way to establish that
good bacteria in the gut. The number four super food for healing leaky
gut is coconut products, especially coconut oil. Coconut oil has antimicrobial properties.
It contains the fatty acids lauric acid, capric acid, and caprylic acid. These are known as
medium chain fats or medium chain triglycerides. They kill off bad bacteria in the gut. They
are very easy to digest. For that reason, all other oils in your diet should really
be replaced with coconut oil when it comes to cooking. Again, coconut oil is great for
healing leaky gut. The number five super food that can help you
heal leaky gut is going to be wild caught fish, especially salmon. Salmon, mackerel,
wild caught tuna, I’m going to emphasize wild here, not farm raised. Wild caught fish is
loaded with omega-3 fats which we know reduce inflammation, which is critical when it comes
to overcoming leaky gut syndrome. I recommend wild caught salmon three times a week. Typically
just baked in the oven is one of the best ways to do it. We know salmon is loaded with
omega-3 fatty acids, and other fish are good as well, real tuna that’s wild caught, and
mackerel is great. Again, some fatty fish is the easiest source of protein to digest
as well as it’s packed with those omega-3 fatty acids. The number six super food for healing leaky
gut, and this actually is with a disclaimer, it’s not for everybody, is sprouted flax seeds.
We know flax seeds are loaded with fiber. Fiber, especially that soluble fiber found
in flax, can help in growing good bacteria in the gut. Again, sprouted flax seeds, not
regular flax but sprouted flax that have been soaked. Just one tablespoon a day is all you
need. One tablespoon a day as part of a super food smoothie with some collagen powder is
great for leaky gut. If you have a very sensitive digestive system, you may not be able to do
the flax at first, but long term it’s a great sprouted seed for healing leaky gut. Last but not least is steamed vegetables or
vegetables made in the Crock-Pot. Broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots, and squashes
like butternut squash are great to do in the Crock-Pot. They nourish the spleen. They nourish
the colon, especially cauliflower cooked. It’s very good for your immune system. Again,
broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, squashes, those vegetables either steamed or cooked
in a Crock-Pot are another food for healing leaky gut. If you’re ready to heal leaky gut syndrome
for good, incorporate those seven super foods on a daily basis, and eliminate all the other
stuff. Eliminate grains. Eliminate processed foods. Really stick to those seven only if
you want to heal leaky gut. If you want to learn more about leaky gut
syndrome, just search Dr. Axe leaky gut, or go to my website draxe.com. I’ve got leaky
gut friendly recipes there as well. If you want to learn more about how to repair your

… not mentioned .. re: coconut oil & Kefir .. "Good " food is good .. bad food = bad i.e. Good kefir/C.C.nut oil / broth good .. store bought = bad .. studies on coconut ( showing detrimental ) use "Bad" .. processed foods use "Hydrogenated" oil , commercial kefir is pasteurized, commercial broth is likely to be "pressure cooked " ( high temp which destroys enzymes ) … Above must be "homemade" from "sourced" origins ( at low temp ) .. store yogurt/kefir is loaded with sugars/ artificial sweets / cooked/dead — w/ "added" miniscule amounts of "live " to preserve claims .. re : below / R. Stuart .. CCNut = (oil) is easy to digest .. " fresh green " coconut = high in fiber & VERY good for you … again .. good = good — bad ( old dried up – internally moldy ) = BAD… there is no short cut to good food or exercise .. ( reaction to dairies = reaction to BAD dairy … fermented "yogurt/kefir are digested .. no one can digest dairy (properly) without "good Lacto. B's … commercial preservatives in milk / breads KILL gut bac…. Preservatives are secondary cause ( gut problems ) primary = Lack of good bugs — lack of good means over population of Bad — i.e. diverticular causing — But no worries — cut out dead section and start wearing a bag .. install at nice convenient stoma .. don't bother fasting … ignore all self control /… pray to the advertising gods … get good "health care plan " that specializes is parts removal and comatose retirement .. & .. "greatest part " .. you don't have to pay for it (gov't) – ( if you don't value your soul )
.. blame pharma , gov't system , int'l corps or TAKE responsibility – no one can "Make " you do/ not do … ONLY YOU — blame is 100% — in the mirror — life if messy — good foods are "messy" — Anal retentive, control freakish , over educated self absorption
is contagious .. take ALL info with a grain of salt ( make sure it's sea salt — & not fake sea salt )

Hi, I’ve been having a lot of digestive issues for around 6 months now. I seem to have developed really bad sensitivities to gluten and milk – which give me terrible brain fog. If I stick to this approach, how long will it be before I start seeing results? Cheers!

  • Local Exposure says:

    Great video man

  • Toosiya Brandt says:

    hi
I would just add sprouted grains, and soaked and rinsed oatmeal[ To remove the phytic acid] to that list]

  • Margaret Jaeger says:

To attention…Merciful Fate…the primary cause of leaky that aren't separated or mentioned here but they cause brain fog and acid reflux galore…and those are dairy products and the normal grain foods ..wheat, barley and rye…and sometimes oats in severe cases. I've been on gluten free diet for 7-8 years but have never successfully eliminated dairy products.the meats apt to be involved are regular market beef and pork. This was verified to me by doctors at our state's Children's hospital when they were treating my grandchild. Those meats bought in the super markets are heavily treated with antibiotics,,often the same kinds that are given to humans,,which remain in the muscle meats.to help ease leaky gut with or without brain fog,,start with a an 8 week trial of eliminating all wheat,,barley, rye and oats. You'll have to read very ingredient list of every food you pick up as it's common for packaged foods to use wheat in them. And regular cereals and rices,,anything that says enriched is probably treated with a slurry of wheat,,water and the vitamins …in Most All cases. And they often don't have to report it on the packages because of a percentage rule of the FDA but they are very well researched by organizations affiliated with gut disorders…Celiac disease and brain disorders such as Autism and ADD…you can verify by online look up. If you show any improvement after those 8 weeks, it's a guarantee that your gut has been struggling with the digestion of gluten and causes what is called an intolerance but gives a similar reaction to allergies. They are many good tasting substitutes for those grains with other grains not so highly sprayed on the field and not so regenerated with hybridizing. See the site of GFCFDiet.com

Also beware of soy protein in foods. The molecular structure of soynprotein is so similar tomwheat that an already disturbed guy can't distinguish that finely so causes a reaction too. I cannget by with soy lecithin which is a dried soy oil and after some years, I can tolerate wheat free soy sauce on occasion,,,but not on an everyday basis.

So leaky gut is caused by more than the foodmitems or process this doctor specifies. Been there,,done that.

  • Thomas K says:

My son is allergic to goat milk

  • John Yohann says:

    THERE’S ALSO A LARGER HEALTH CONCERN …

When it comes to looking at how human health is affected by eating non-pastured meats, a big concern is the sickening hygiene and safety record of industrial farming. In many cases, runoff from the contaminated manure floods into rivers and streams, thereby causing outbreaks of E. coli and other diseases.5 It’s just not good for us.

    THE TAKEAWAY

The harsh reality is that most American farmland has become overshadowed by this dangerous wave of industrial agriculture – the often inhumane, chemically-intensive method of raising food in gigantic animal production facilities impacts our public health in big ways.

We have to do our best to buy produce labeled pasture-raised and 100% grass-fed. Then, and only then, will we be able to give our bodies the proper nutrients and healthy food we need. And, we can rest assured we’re supporting the ethical and cruelty-free treatment of animals.
