#TomorrowsDiscoveries: Solar Radiation on Skin – Dermatologist Sewon Kang

The good, the bad, and the ugly, sum up what the sunlight
can do to our skin. Certain wavelengths of solar
radiation can effectively treat skin diseases like psoriasis,
eczema, and vitiligo. But excessive exposure to the sun
increase the risk of skin cancer, including melanoma. And yes, too much sun can also
cause our skin to age much faster. I am Sewon Kang, and together
with my team at Johns Hopkins, I have been working on how radiation
from the sun can bring about very different effects
on human skin. By understanding their mechanisms,
we will come up with ways to more safely and effectively treat skin
diseases, prevent or minimize skin cancer development, and
even treat and slow down skin aging. [MUSIC]
