Teenager With Psoriasis

Growing up and being a teenager and having
a visible disease like psoriasis was quite interesting. At that age, if you
don’t have a chronic illness, if you’re not dealing with acne or
something visible, it’s already difficult, the pressures of being the
perfect weight and skin. So when you add a disease like psoriasis
to the mix, it increases your chances for depression, your chances for having low
self-esteem, your self-image issues, which are all things that I faced. I
compared myself to others around me and I wished that I had their lives. And I used
to ask myself, “Why me? Why do I have this disease on my body when everyone
around me seems like they’re perfect. Now in hindsight, I learned that we’re
all struggling with something, even if it’s not necessarily physical. You
could be perfectly fine on the outside but still deal with those same issues. So,
although it was unique, I learned a lot and now I can kind of reflect back on
those difficult moments.
