(Music) “5…” “4…” “3…” “2…” “1…” (Air Horn) This is the sixth annual
Tacky Sweater 5K and to help bring awareness,
advocacy, and education to melanoma through
Eastern Virginia Medical School. We’re here as Andre’s Warriors Andre is my husband. We were
married thirty plus years. We have two children, and he
was a Norfolk firefighter-paramedic. Andre died last
December from melanoma. As Andre’s Warriors, between twenty-five
and thirty people are here today walking. Tacky Sweater 5K, we’ve grown by leaps and bounds. More and more people are
finding out about the importance of skin screening and melanoma. All of the net
proceeds today go to Eastern Virginia
Medical School Department of Dermatology for melanoma education and awareness. For melanoma, early detection is key, and that’s what we’re trying
to get out in the community. As Andre’s Warriors, we’re going
to try to make this an annual event. Hopefully, each year, it will grow
more and more to raise awareness.
