LEO Foundation – The Movie

LEO Foundation – The Movie

The largest human organ is the skin. At any point in time, one in every four persons
will suffer from a skin condition. Skin conditions can often be visible and stigmatizing and some cases are partially or even completely debilitating. This is why it is important to support skin
research, so that better treatments, and perhaps even cures may be discovered. The LEO Foundation is funding skin research
projects and activities all over the globe. The prime goal and function of the LEO Foundation
is to be the active owner of the pharmaceutical company LEO Pharma, as well as to provide
philanthropic support to some of the world’s leading scientists within skin research, combating
the impact of skin diseases. In 1908 a young Danish pharmacist and visionary
– August Kongsted becomes the creator and founder of LEO Pharma. His mission: to secure the availability of
high quality medicine for the public. Following his passing, son-in-law Knud Abildgaard
takes the reins, further developing LEO Pharma into becoming an independent, research-based,
global, pharmaceutical company. In 1984 the LEO Foundation is established. In this way Knud Abildgaard secures the continuation
of his life’s work. The Foundation’s Charter specifies the LEO
Foundation as the owner of LEO Pharma at arms-length, and as the supporter of independent skin research. All LEO Foundation grants and awards are decided
by the LEO Foundation Board of Trustees. We have no intellectual property rights to
the results coming from the research funded by the Foundation’s philanthropic support. But the Foundation requests that the results are published. In the LEO Foundation, we believe that our
grants and awards make a significant contribution to promoting dermatological research worldwide, to the benefit of the millions of people with skin diseases.
