Is Ritalin The Same As Meth?

Is Ritalin The Same As Meth?

Hi I’m Rick green from TotallyADD.com.
If you’ve poked around our website you know that there are lots of videos there
are always great comments and now and then there’s a kind of a Lulu. Mostly
people respond to them but now and then one kind of sets me off and this one did.
This is for a video where three of the experts of the 60 or 70 experts who are on the site, who’ve given their time and their knowledge and their experience
with thousands of patients tens of thousands of patients to share and this
person wrote “I would love to see any of these three doctors repeat what they
just said to an older pharmacist I ran across a decade and a half ago”
alarm bell went off that couldn’t happen ago ADHD was not that well understood back then the genetic stuff had not anyway
“would they get an earful. He started in on parents being so stupid as to give
their kids Ritalin which he made clear as a form of meth and then wonder why
their kid grows up to be a drug addict he went on and on about it he was so mad about the whole drugging of these kids with these stimulants known to induce
seizure activity and of course bipolar whenever I speak to kids in school they
asked about Ritalin I tell them the chemical name of the drug is
methylphenidate” Wow she got that right. “and I asked so what is it and they
always shout out meth” in other words crystal might like the crystal meant of
the meth that the drug meth “and I tell them they are correct and to go home and
tell their parents because most parents have not yet figured that out or maybe
the parents did some research and talked to the doctor looks like the kids better
go educate those three doctors”. yeah yeah that’d be great eight year olds lecturing ADHD specialists who’ve dealt with tens of
thousands of people. The issue that I have with her is that she’s saying that
Ritalin is meth. It has the word methane and
methylphenidate meth means one carbon atom
– is ethyl 3 is propyl I have a degree in science so I know. I studied this at
university to tell people that meth and Ritalin are the same thing they’re not
the molecules are different and anything that has one carbon atom has net is the
name meth for example methyl salicylate cement fall cream for minor aches and
pains caused by arthritis strains sprains and bruises and then there’s
methyl aquiline which is used to test for asthma those of you with asthma will
be happy about that meth Malzone mallas Olli inhibits the production of the
thyroid hormone not really sold on the street but it has meth in it methyl
cloudy say it’s a diuretic that’s what makes you pee which is good if you have
fluid retention or if you’re going to a big frat party don’t do that.
Methyl nominee is a urinary antiseptic it kills bacteria in the urine good for
it because who wants that job methyl hexxit all used to put you under before
you go under surgery always a good idea highly recommend going under especially
if it’s a vasectomy what this does is improve muscle tone and strength and
timing for uterine contractions which I think I’m having right now just thinking
about it that’s more for women for men. There’s method testosterone it’s a
synthetic androgen it’s a steroid develops and maintains the primary and
secondary male sex characteristics I’ve never had any help I had to develop my
own sex characteristics um what are secondary sex characteristics. I may have
missed something it’s a vitamin for people who need higher levels of folate
used for treating cancer of the breast skin head neck lungs also used to treat
severe psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.
I’m reading these on the back another supplement for folate for muscle sprain
from spasms and strains hey kids what’s methyl scopolamine
it’s meth yeah you’re drug dealers are selling you drugs for your peptic ulcers
this one is for breast cancer again for severe
psoriasis the 90 epileptic medication actually stops seizures anticonvulsant
this woman was claiming that anyway. Here’s one that’s really scared look at
this chemical may this is the format and it’s got methyl in it twice and kids are
getting this parents are giving this to kids. It’s called starch this is the starch molecule. The chemical name if you gave
your kids potatoes. try methyl so this got three times as much and what this is
he whoo kids see who’s got B this is actually a stimulant this is a stimulant
that people will take this is the most widely abuse drug it’s actually caffeine
in coffee. So Starbucks is selling this on the street corners and kids are
hitting it in Coke I’ll never give my child a stimulant here ever he’s much
better with a coke can actually fall asleep by the way if you know any
Methodists don’t buy anything off them don’t take any of the little wafers they
give you are actually clearly this woman is avoiding meth because she’s not being
methodical for example reading studies. oops I realized I never actually
explained the difference so the methylphenidate Slyke in red illan
they’re not amphetamines at all they’re not related to methamphetamine the
street drug it’s a totally different chemical structure so concerta medidate
CD ritalin la methylphenidate Ritalin tablets they do not contain any
amphetamines zilch nada never have. there are prescription amphetamines for ADHD
adderall vyvanse Dex oo amphetamine there Dexter I forgot what it’s called
but there’s no meth Street drug in them so methamphetamine the street drug is
not the same as any prescription medication for ADHD the chemical
properties are on the way it acts on the brain very different
it’s like ethanol alcohol you drink a glass of wine maybe you end up with a
hangover methanol say wood alcohol you drink and you won’t have a hangover
because you’ll be dead. very different structures and the street drug
methamphetamine dumps a huge amount of dopamine into the reward center of the
brain but it also burns out the person’s dopamine production
so the regular prescription amphetamines used as intended work on the specific
areas involved with ADHD and do not put excessive amounts of dopamine into the
reward center and in dosages that are too high they actually cause unpleasant
side effects not euphoria or super good feelings so for someone who truly has
ADHD it’s almost impossible to become addicted because there’s no rush to
chase the more you take if you have ADHD the worse you feel. so this brings us to
methinks methinks is a Shakespearian term as in the thinks the lady doth
protest too much and in this case I think the lady does a whole bunch of
stuff too much. What I would suggest is that she do some reading and some
research because just because it does meth in it ah sorry it’s that’s how
upset I got i would recommend she try methyl cellulose this is a high-fiber
product it’s used to treat constipation I think you could use it because clearly
you’re full of don’t worry i’ll bleep that out Oh bleep it out you know wow
there’s not even anyone there this one’s scary deoxy ribose nucleic nuclear like
who wants nuclear so an acid that just burns through there this is this is and
kids have this now there’s this is they’re finding this showing up in kids
today the street name is DNA and my day we
didn’t have DNA we just got hit in the ear and we started up you

The ignorance of people, ESPECIALLY Professionals! [SCAREY!] never ceases to amaze me! I lived with ADD/ADHD untreated for 53 years. It was a STRUGGLE! I drove my parents NUTS, I drove myself NUTS! I made bad decisions starting with dropping out of school and getting married at 17. BECAUSE my brain could not connect dots! After being diagnosed at 53 and treated with Adderal, almost immediately it was as if the lights went on! My thinking became so clear, my memories came back, I am able to read and retain the information I read [almost with total recall] in school I could not remember anything unless HIGHly interested in it. Prior to my treatment on Adderal, I had almost constant anxiety and panic attacks. I was WRONGLY diagnosed for years and given the WRONG meds which DID NOT work!! Why? Duhhh because I did not have that which I was diagnosed with! What my med does, and yes its a stimulant, but it actually DOES NOT HYPE ME up, instead it calms me down, so I can remain focus for longer amounts of time on one thing, instead of jumping around because I have 20 thoughts all going at the same time on different subjects. Maybe these professionals need to find another profession and leave it to those that have the disorder because they are able to understand. Those with Neurotypical brains just can't get it, just like we couldn't get something prior to our meds! We are simply "Wired" Different That really pissed me off too!!

Back in my day we didn't have those street drugs DNA and proteins. We had RNA and that was good enough for us

    Did this get reuploaded?

The sarcasm levels of this video are through the roof. I love it! I actually was under the impression that Adderall was very close to Methamphetmine, but I was wrong! Thanks for educating me!

Awww…It’s too bad there’’s no method to teach folks like that lol. I’m sorry you have to go through this kinda thing Rick. There may cometh a time when you’ll feel some compassion for the weakness inherent in ridged (fridged?, rigged?) attention seekers.

That was awesome Rick. We need more people like you.

“I have a degree in science” said it so sassy ! I love it . Honestly I’m so happy that you made this video . I was diagnosed at 23 and have been taking adderall xr since . I’ve never tried drugs and I’ve never not even once abused my medication but watching the Netflix documentary last made me feel like I had to defend myself . I was mad at the way they twisted medication that someone like myself needs to be able to function and made it about the people who take it that aren’t supposed to , which gives us all a bad rap . It did give me some anxiety like am I really taking meth ? But then I focused that anxiety on getting pissed at the misrepresentation and out confidence in myself bc I know I’m using it exactly how I am supposed to

Your correspondent made me feel very angry, but I enjoyed your wonderful rant very much. Interestingly enough, watching this on youtube, one of the related videos that came up was "Stop ADHD and ADD in 18 days by eliminating this!" to be found on the iHealth channel. God save us from the ill-informed.

I loved it! Kids, science matters. Trust no one, verify everything. The REAL physical world could care less about your own personal facts or beliefs. Just because someone agrees with you, doesn't make it true. But, if 90% of world scientists agree you will fall to your death if you jump off that bridge, you better believe them. Your own personal set of facts won't save you. Look around. Learn. Read.

  • David Cloutier says:

Nice rant! Someone has to call those "gifted" people on their crap!
Life is hard enough with real facts, don't need blatant false claims like this.

  • Max says:

I commented on the original video about how Rick and his team are a beacon of sanity in this world for us ADHD brains

Yes, original. They took this video down and reuploaded it. Why? None of the information they were presenting was wrong per say, but they used a slightly incorrect diagram for one of the molecules.

Something very few but the biggest chem nerds would ever pick up on and doesn't take away from the main message at all, but they hold themselves to a high enough standard to correct their mistakes no matter how small.

Which gives me a far greater respect for them over people who refuse to acknowledge debunks of their claims or parents who think they know better than one of the largest bodies of scientific literature to date.

Love you guys, keep up the good fight <3

Is there anyone around who took ritalin or adderal in.teenage or twenties and is now in 30s or 40s. Do you still take the drug and and is it still as effective? Methylphenidate is not structurally the same as methamphetamine/amphetamine: However pharmacological actions of methylphenidate are identical too that of cocaine; blockade of the dopamine transport system (resulting in increased dopamine in the synaptic gap.

    Love this!

  • Lina Niazi says:

you are so funny i love this video haha

  • Dziugas Vaitkevicius says:

    Methylphenidate=meth
By their logic, anything with meth in the name is meth, so therefore methcathinone, methadone, methenamine and methanol are all meth. They're not remotely close

Love this video tho, this guy is hilarious

  • Dianna Mifflin says:

Bah-ha-ha-ha! That was great. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • Toxic Existence says:

loved your video, Ritalin does not damage the brain, meth totally does

  • Zoey Vagner says:

oh my gosh hahaha I died watching this.

  • Tyler Newman says:

Ritalin isn't even slightly similar to methamphetamine, but it is similar to adderall—amphetamine. Desoxyn is prescription meth and in rare cases is prescribed to those that haven't responded well to medication.

That doesn't make anyone that has used it a bad person, but I don't think it does any good to pretend that it isn't. Methamphetamine's effects are at least partially attributed to the drug becoming amphetamine in your bloodstream.

They're all drugs—what makes them medication is a doctor monitoring your use and a legitimate set of circumstances—biological and social—that they address.

  • whenindoubt mutemyownmouth says:

Much less potent, much shorter acting, not even in the amphetamine group, no.

  • Ruben R Films says:

This was great! Very interesting and thank you for clarifying 🙂

  • Dr. Reginald Flotsbottom says:

I took two this morning and it felt exactly like meth guess I placeboed myself awake

  • Nihulistic99th says:

    One Word: Desoxyn

  • RLTW says:

    Fucking dude is awesome!

  • Markus Rose says:

Well it sure affected me like meth. I would take 40 mg, feel the euphoria come on, start feeling invincible and horny, then one hour later take another 40 mg and embark on a 48 hour pornography binge. By the time it was over, I had usually gone through half the months supply (600 mg in a two day period.).

Don’t tell me adderall isn’t like meth, and don’t you dare suggest that maybe I don’t have ADD. I have it bad, and the fact that it is untreatable with drugs has meant the sacrifice of so many goals, replaced with the endless aggravation of the daily grind through life, losing everything, late always, etc..

  • Yisrael Dov L says:

While this maybe technically correct, it is very misleading. Methylphenidate (or ritalin ) is a schedule 2 drug, meaning:

1 – The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
2 – The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States or a currently accepted medical use with severe restrictions.
3 – Abuse of the drug or other substances may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence.

Equating Ritalin to other much less harmful substances is completely irresponsible. The way that it acts on the brain is not "very different" than amphetamines, they are both psycho-stimulants.

  • Change4Good says:

Excellent response! to irresponsible affirmations. You are always so funny, Rick. Loved it!

  • Berat Duman says:

Can you please add english subtitles for videos it is hard to understand somtimes for people from other countries like me

  • Dominc Gruver says:

Ok so alot of you are guna disagree with me but I have done ritalin and I have done meth and i promise you i can not tell the difference between the 2 what so ever they feel exactly the same to me it's like the difference between percocet and heroin like yeah they are chemically different but to someone who does them recreationally they are exactly the same

  • MDK22420 says:

Ok that woman was dumb and ignorant for saying meth instead of amphetamine, and comparing a non amphetamine, but to use that as a reason to get technical and pretend like they're not remotely similar or have similar effects is a disservice.

  • Adam Grant says:

Well….I did take it for a decade. I abused it as a drug….I closed myself in my apartment….I had constant paranoia….and I dug up my body because I was always seeing bugs in my skin.
So… you can be right…it certainly is not the the same structure molecularly……..but it certainly has very similar effects of the addiction. I was losing my grip on reality.
Side note: I am around drug users 24/7 in my community and my life …..was drugs …..for over half my life…..I am 42 and spend my life telling others…..users or not…….about Jesus.

Oh please I have seen some of my friends snort A line of Meth back when I was in college !! And they always said it hits you’re really fast but I prefer 40 mg of Adderall but I can’t afford it because the Meth is so cheap !! This was many years ago but let me tell you don’t that tell you something I don’t do stimulates because I don’t need them and I cannot take them because I have severe panic attacks and I take Klonopin. So if I even tried one Adderall I’m sure it would affect me and I horrible way. But it tells me a lot when these friends said they wish they had Adderall if they can afford it.

I remember having multiple diagnoses as a child for ADD. i took ritalin at that time and Concerta.. I was always the Weird bird in class, Looking out the window and staring over 5 hours a day to nothing else then the opposite building. It helped but with allot of side effects. Having the best score in class 4 Years in a row with Daily euphoria and Motivation. When i turned 14 I quit using it.. Resulting in Average grades and failing to get my Degree when i was 18. When i turned 21 Years old i started using it again. I got 5 Degree's when i turned 23 on top of that i learned guitar and Jogging is now as pleasant as ever.

    I only use 10mg Ritalin every 2 Hours or a 8 hour 20mg Auto-dose.

I was on adderall as a kid and it made me a zombie. All i wanted to do was sleep. Of course i was 13-15 when i was on it but i also lost 60lbs on it because i didnt eat. So i just stick to my caffeine and nicotine for my stimulants.

  • 183314842 says:

Actually, Methylphenidate increases dopamine more than methamphetamine does. It is just far less neurotoxic and generally safer. All of these drugs also increase norepinephrine, which is responsible for many of the effects of stimulants.

  • emme in the moon chariot says:

Yep because adhd isn’t a thing really and we all just want to shove our Ritalin and adderall up our noses to get high! Stupidity makes me angry! Wouldn’t it be nice if adhd symptoms could be induced and everyone had to spend a year experiencing the symptoms before talking sh*t?!

  • bob bobson says:

My kid has become addicted to Hydroxylic acid thanks to you! I hope you are proud of yourself!

  • ADHD Patrick says:

Hahaha I laughed so hard! Meth Meth Meth 😀

  • Gary Henry says:

I do not have a degree in science, but half of what you said wrong. First off, yes, methylphenidate is not close to meth. It's a dopamine reuptake inhibtor which effectively recycles synaptic release of dopamine, sort of like an anti-depressant, but with dopamine as opposed to serotonin. ADHD is a condition in which there is a static depletion in tonic dopamine levels. Furthermore, all amphetamines flood dopamine receptors with large amounts of dopamine which destroys receptors. That's their MoA, that's how they work, even it's adderall. MDMA (Methylenedioxy Methamphetamine) does this too, except with serotonin receptors. Lastly, you can get prescription methamphetamine to treat ADHD, under the brand name Desoxyn. I think people synonymize Ritalin and Adderall when they are different types of drugs. Adderall is a methyl group away from methamphetamine and the only pharmacokinetic difference is the DoA.
