How to Inject Enbrel

How to Inject Enbrel

(bright music) – Hi. Today we’re gonna talk
about the ENBREL Mini. The Mini is a cartridge
that can be inserted into the autoinjector but this
is a reusable autoinjector so every week you would
use a new cartridge. This is very easy to use and you can control the speed in which your injection takes place. I want to just point out some
of the features of this pen. So, if we look on this side, we see this top is the button
that we would push to inject. Here we have a window where
we’ll get our indicator lights. This is a speaker. This is how we decide how fast or slow we want the injection to go,
there’s just, it just slides. On this side is our sound. If we wanted to turn the sound off, we can turn the sound off. This is a little indicator window that shows us, there’ll
be a light that comes on and also we’ll see a little
yellow band that comes down as the medicine is going
through the system. This side is a door that opens up, this is our door, this
button will open up this door so that we can put the Mini in there. Okay, this is the part that’s
gonna go against your skin. This is the button at the top,
go against your skin here. So, if you’re ready to get started, you want to wash your
hands and the other thing you’ll need is an alcohol wipe and you’re gonna clean off the skin where you decide that you’re
gonna do your injection. Now, because this is such a sophisticated and sensitive device,
I will have to put this against my skin to demonstrate it. I’m gonna use my forearm, however please understand that this is not a place to inject. You wanna do your
injection in your stomach, stay an inch away from your
belly button, or in your thigh. So, let me show you how this works. First thing I’m gonna do,
I’ll push this button. That opens the door, we’re gonna insert the little cartridge that
has our medication in it. You can see the medication would be along, you can see the medication
in here, it should be clear. Nothing floating around, no cloudiness. And this will only go in one way but you wanna make sure
this label is face up. Okay, so we slide that in there, we snap it closed, if you’ll notice, I don’t know if you can see
that, a little light comes on inside this window to sort of let us know that things are getting started here. We’re gonna pull this cap
off, just pull straight off. Now, it’s ready to go. I’ve cleaned off my spot and I’m gonna hold this against my skin. You’ll notice what’s gonna happen is this is gonna turn green. If you have a green light, that means you’re good to fire it. If you have a red light,
either take it away and put it back again or maybe
something has loaded wrong. I’m gonna turn this and you’re gonna see that you’ve got indicator lights in that window I had shown you before. You would see a red error message if there was a problem and
things weren’t ready to go. Okay, so I’m gonna sort of
tilt this a little bit this way so hopefully you’ll be able to see both that window and the indicator lights. So, all we’re gonna do
is push this button. (electronic whirring) The medication’s going in. (electronic whirring) And that’s gonna make a second
click when it’s finished and it’s all done.
(electronic whirring) The machine, this little autoinject will automatically open up and
we’ll remove the cartridge. And then this cartridge is
all that you’re gonna need to deposit into your sharps container. You’re gonna close this door and you’re finished with
this until next week when you have to do another injection. Once again, I wanna say, do
not inject in your forearm. That’s not a good place for to do these subcutaneous injections. We wanna make sure that
they go into a layer of fat. So, that’s what there is to
injecting the ENBREL Mini. Thank you. (bright music)
