Dr. Josh Axe: What Causes Leaky Gut?

– Yeah so for me personally, I typically do
not just treat treat the outside condition. And the reason being is that
your symptoms are not your necessary disease. If a child is acting out, if a
child is having trouble focusing, if a child even has a certain digestive
symptom, again those are all symptoms. What’s really going on in the body? Again
we’re talking about if somebody is having a brain issue whether, it’s
development issues, or depression, or anxiety, those issues most often actually
start in the gut. Hippocrates said over 2,000 years ago, all, not some, all disease
begins in the gut. And so I really believe you know it’s crucial, not to
treat this symptom, to get to the root cause. And oftentimes it’s leaky gut
syndrome. And if we really want to start to make big changes in an
impact on children with autism, we’ve got to get to the root cause healing that
gut lining. Now, you know it can start before that. It can start with issues I
talked about what causes leaky gut. Toxicity, certain medications like
antibiotics can trigger leaky gut. Now you know genetics are part of it, but
also there’s other things such as organ malfunction,
you know dietary you know poor diet, emotions, you know emotions of anxiety,
worry, fear, all of these things can cause gut inflammation affect hormones like
cortisol you know that can cause leaky gut.
