August is Psoriasis Awareness month with SCNM’s Dr. Alexander

Hi I’m dr. Amanda Alexander practicing
at the Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center in Tempe and in honor of National
Psoriasis Awareness Month I’ve here to talk to you all about a few
tips that I like to give patients. First I like to recommend food sensitivity
testing because as an autoimmune condition it’s important that we don’t
let you eat food that will trigger your immune systems to basically work
overtime which is a problem in psoriasis. Secondly I like to recommend patients to
avoid inflammatory foods so things like sugar and high fructose corn syrup which
are commonly found in packaged food items. Those should be avoided and
replaced with more of a plant-based type diet that’s high in fiber. And then
lastly a lot of people are unaware of this but insulin sensitivity may
actually be another contributing factor in psoriasis as a result. Chromium
supplementation may be beneficial and helping insulin get blood sugar into the
cells as it is with type 2 diabetes and was polycystic ovarian syndrome so I
hope you enjoyed these few tips and hopefully we’ll see you soon at our
Medical Center, take care!
