Hello friends, I’m Poonam and welcome to Poonam’s Kitchen! friends, this is bottle gourd juice Some people call it doodhi, or ghia Its juice has become very popular in the last 10-15 years for diabetes, weight loss etc. but in this video I’m not talking about its medical benefits In this video, I’m talking about some do’s and don’ts While making bottle gourd juice, you have to keep some things in mind and make sure to avoid some things, as these mistakes can cost you heavily Let’s make bottle gourd juice, and as we go on I’ll let you know what things to keep in mind Friends if you like this video, then please like, comment, share, and subscribe! To make the juice, try to find desi ghia if you can If it’s not available then you can use any other variety Now the first point Many people make bottle gourd juice with some additional vegetables like bitter gourd, tomatoes, carrots etc. to add more taste and get more benefits DON’T make this mistake at all I’ll share some links in the description, where you can see that doctors recommend to NOT add any other vegetables Many patients with diabetes drink bitter gourd juice but it is a big no-no to also add bottle gourd juice to it Make sure to never add bitter gourd to your bottle gourd juice I’ll tell you more about why not to do this when I make the juice We’ll also talk later about how to consume bottle gourd juice , so make sure to watch till the end If you want to improve the taste of this juice then you can add a few things that are allowed by naturopaths With the bottle gourd you can add, lemon, ginger, coriander/ cilantro leaves, mint leaves These will definitely improve the taste, but you’ll also get their benefits First let’s see the exact quantities of everything To make 2 servings, I’m taking 400 grams bottle gourd If your’re taking a smaller piece from a bigger gourd, then only cut it when you’re ready to make the juice like I’m about to make now For this much bottle gourd, I’m taking a little bit of cilantro I’ve kept the stems intact, as these also have a ton of flavor and nutrition and about 5-7 leaves of mint one small piece of ginger and about 2 teaspoons of lemon juice In addition I’ll add some ground cumin (jeera powder), and some pink salt If you want you can add some black pepper too Now I’ll wash the bottle gourd, cilantro, and mint and get them ready After washing the bottle gourd, we’ll taste it from both sides cut a thin slice from each side and taste it and it should not be bitter at all whatever you’re using bottle gourd for, a juice or cooking NEVER use a bottle gourd that is bitter If bottle gourd is bitter, it becomes poisonous If your bottle gourd is bitter, wrap it in a bag and throw it in the trash so that no one can reach it If it’s normal in taste, then peel it and cut it try to find a bottle gourd with a thin skin so that you get the maximum amount of bottle gourd from it Now let’s talk about why we shouldn’t mix bitter gourd juice with bottle gourd juice Hypothetically, think if someone made bottle gourd juice but didn’t taste it and that bottle gourd was bitter they’ll think that the juice is bitter because there’s bitter gourd mixed in there Bitter gourd is naturally bitter and is actually good for your health But a bottle gourd that is bitter is very bad for your health Now that person will unknowingly drink this juice and it will cause harm to their health This is my understanding Doctors have many other scientific reasons for this so please listen to them and don’t add any other vegetables while making bottle gourd juice just the ones that the doctors have allowed, which are also the ones we’re adding today I’ve peeled the bottle gourd, but do not wash it after this will also wash away some of its nutrients now I will cut this bottle gourd into small pieces Making bottle gourd juice isn’t rocket science it’s just a matter of few minutes, but you just have to keep some things in mind Now when you’re cutting bottle gourd, you can see its seeds are raw They’re also soft, so we can use these in our juice too If the seeds are over-ripe and/or that portion is mushy, then just cut it out and remove it I’m dicing the bottle gourd into small pieces to that the mixer doesn’t have to do much work Friends, the ideal situation is that you peel and cut the bottle gourd only when you’re ready to make the juice but if by chance you cut it and you’re not making the juice right after you can soak the gourd in drinking water so that it doesn’t start getting oxidized and turn dark While soaked in water, the gourd will lose some of its nutrients so you can just use that water to make the juice or use it it any other dish you’re preparing I’m making the juice right now, so I’ll put the bottle gourd in the mixer and the rest of the ingredients too mint leaves, cilantro leaves ginger, and 2 teaspoon lemon juice I’ll add salt but only a little at first since the bottle gourd also has sodium in it you can add more after tasting once the juice is ready adding some cumin now right now I’ve put one-fourth teaspoon salt before mixing it I’ll add about 100 mL water Start by adding a little water first, and then add more to adjust the consistency I’ll put the lid on and start with some short pulses bottle gourd also has water in it, so pulsing also releases that water this also give us a better idea oh how much water to put later While pulsing, also take the lid off and clean off the mixer walls so that everything blends evenly I’ll add more water as it needs and then blend everything together The juice is ready, with this consistency In total I added 200 mL water After its done, we can taste the salt The sodium from the gourd is also in the juice now Now you can add more salt if you want to I’m adding just one-fourth teaspoon more salt Remember, this is 2 servings of the juice Friends, if you feel like the juice is even a little bitter then please don’t drink it It’s not worth it. Your health is most precious!! Keep watching the video because I have some important tips for you We won’t be straining this juice Bottle gourd has a lot of fiber in it and that fiber keeps your stomach full and keeps you satiated This is how this juice helps with weight loss So if you strain the juice you’ll be getting rid of the fiber Consume this juice right after you make it If vegetable/fruit juice sits out for long, drinking it can build up gas/ acidity One would drink this juice for its health benefits, then what’s the point if it upsets your stomach To make this juice more appealing and tasty, I’m adding some roasted cumin (jeera powder) I’ll also add some fresh mint leaves Now comes the question of when to drink this juice From what I’ve read, this juice should be drunk in the morning on an empty stomach and to not drink more than 100 mL juice in one sitting but I’m not a doctor/ naturopath/ dietitian/ nutritionist I’ve just read these things and you should only do what your own doctor tells you based on your age/ health condition Enjoy this healthy bottle gourd juice but only after getting a medical opinion and keep my tips in mind while making this juice especially the ones that I said to NOT DO even by mistake Friends, thank you so much for watching this video If you liked my tips, please like, comment, and share this video Your likes and comments are what moves this video and this channel ahead!
